Urban Creation

How do you build a new center?

This issue of the magazine "workflow – Modern Working Environments in Seestadt" is dedicated to the topic of "Urban Creation".

For a city to work for everyone and remain livable, it must constantly evolve, with many plans interconnected, regularly tested, and pursued further. For example, underground, where not only the sponge city supplies green spaces above ground, but now, even deeper, hot water from the city's first geothermal power plant will provide heat to 20,000 households. Or in the managed shopping streets, where numerous initiatives help people, ideas, and businesses grow together. Or in the planning of new transport hubs like Nelson Mandela Square, which are intended to meet more than just mobility needs – with smart, future-ready spaces for relaxing or unfolding, for immersing in urban working environments, and for vibrant exchanges with others: for arriving in a new, regional center.

"Transport hubs need to become attractive again."

Video: The Sponge City Principle

In the "Am Seebogen" quarter, the so-called sponge city principle was implemented to optimize rainwater management along streets and paths, thereby improving tree locations. In total, when aspern Seestadt is completed, two-thirds of the district will be realized as a sponge city.
