Diverse Mix of Culture and Audiences
Vanessa Payer-Kumar, who has been bringing Theater7 to Seestadt for six years, shares a similar view: The station theater production “Lebensbögen” traced the biographies of the women who gave their names to the streets in Seestadt last summer, bringing figures like Jane Jacobs, Wangari Maathai, and Doris Lessing to life. The diverse audience mix also shows how well these productions are received: “About half of our visitors came from Donaustadt—a very heterogeneous audience—just as ‘colorful’ as this district itself,” says Payer-Kumar. “The people of Seestadt love theater that is close to them in form, content, and emotion, while also offering high artistic value and challenging them.”
There is a strong willingness to cooperate, and projects can be implemented very well across genres and institutions, Payer-Kumar continues. The success of cultural events in Seestadt speaks volumes for the openness and interest of the audience, because “establishing a new venue in times like these is no easy task,” as Gratzer also says. Thanks to the cooperation with VHS, the dedicated support from Wien 3420, the City of Vienna, and the long-standing main sponsor of Rabenhof, Raiffeisen Landesbank, this has been a success and is set to continue in the future. Stermann & Grissemann and Andreas Vitasek’s “Der Herr Karl” will follow in December 2022 and January 2023, and Ernst Molden will also perform with his women’s orchestra in Seestadt. Theater7 also plans to stage a “historical piece” in the Kulturgarage next year, Payer-Kumar reveals.
