Seestadt is an urban development project of European stature – and thus a once-in-a-century opportunity for Vienna. A young, growing district that combines affordable housing, a regional hub for northeastern Vienna, and a business location.
A Multifunctional District for All Life Stages
Seestadt stands for long-term urban development with vision. Born from the need for housing and the desire to let Vienna continue to grow, a new district has been emerging for years on the site of the former airfield – piece by piece, quarter by quarter.
As a multifunctional district, Seestadt brings together living, working, education, and leisure in one place. It is designed as a “city for all stages of life” – with offerings for all generations and phases of life. By the 2030s, space will be created here for over 25,000 people and more than 20,000 jobs and college places.
Seestadt is an attempt to actually build a mixed-use city again in the 21st century. The success so far shows that the approach is right. The city is not – as is often suggested – a problem, but THE solution to many challenges – from land use to climate protection.
