FAQ: Seestadt at a glance

Seestadt covers around 240 hectares and is one of Europe’s largest urban development areas. By the 2030s, homes for over 25,000 people and more than 20,000 jobs and college places will be created.

Seestadt is located in the northeast of Vienna, in the 22nd district Donaustadt, nestled between the Danube wetlands and Marchfeld. It lies at the center of the CENTROPE area between Vienna and Bratislava.

The 50,000 m² lake is the heart of the district and was created even before the buildings – a clear sign of planning that puts people first. With a park, promenade, and bathing areas in the south, it stands for leisure, identity, and high quality of life.

Since 2013, the U2 connects Seestadt with two stations to the city center in 25 minutes. The service is complemented by bus lines, trams, and the Aspern Nord regional train station.

Yes. Seestadt relies on collective garages: parking remains convenient, while streets and squares are kept free for pedestrians and cyclists.

About half of the area is dedicated to public spaces: parks, squares, green corridors, and the “Green String” create diverse spaces for recreation and encounters.

The first residents moved into the Pionierquartier in 2014. Since then, the Seeparkquartier as a business district and the Quartier Am Seebogen have become major new neighborhoods. Currently, the Seecarré in the northwest and the Seeterrassen on the waterfront are being developed – step by step, they are taking Seestadt forward.
