She is bursting with energy and ideas for bringing people together:Claudia Glawischnig-Hejtmanek is responsible for business networking at the district management in Aspern Seestadt: “Bringing people together – that is, the neighborhood and all the information, cooperation, and initiatives needed for a good community life in the young district – is fundamentally the job of district management.” A seven-member team has been working on behalf of the Seestadt development company Wien 3420 and the City of Vienna – Technical Urban Renewal (MA 25) since 2014, provided by Caritas Stadtteilarbeit, Plansinn Planung und Kommunikation GmbH, and ABZ*AUSTRIA. Glawischnig-Hejtmanek has been involved with district management for some time. When she still lived in Styria, she networked business associations. Later, regional development projects and business consulting with a focus on networking, strategy development, and compatibility concepts were added.
When she started working for ABZ*AUSTRIA in district management two years ago, there was already lively exchange within the business community in Seestadt. However, the number and diversity of businesses has since grown significantly – from large industrial companies to gastronomy, retail, services, and creative industry freelancers, all the way to fitness studios. So, different formats are needed for networking and cooperation. Business breakfasts at changing locations, ideally with added value, have proven successful. At the last breakfast, for example, the topic was the digital district map of Seestadt, how local businesses can present themselves there and use it for their own marketing. This was initiated by Philipp Naderer-Puiu, a Seestadt resident, excellent programmer, photographer, and active in a building group with coworking space, Glawischnig-Hejtmanek explains. Today, the Seestadt development company uses the tool and is continuously expanding it – as an information platform for residents, but not least to put the business location in the spotlight.
Coming Together for a Win-Win
The ground floor zone is all about launching activities that boost the collective power of shops and venues – from the Easter puzzle rally to the “living Advent calendar” with baking for kids, “punch & music” to meditation. “These activities are brought to life with a lot of dedication and passion by the young local business association ‘Gutes aus der Seestadt’, whose chairman, Seestadt lawyer Paul Nagler, has been extremely committed over the past two years, especially during the corona crisis,” says Glawischnig-Hejtmanek. The district management provides strategic and organizational support, while the Seestadt development company and the shopping street association, which are behind the aspern shopping brand and the “managed shopping street”, also provide financial backing.
Food also brings people together and sparks spontaneous ideas. No wonder, then, that during a tour themed “This is how Seestadt eats”, Kasnudl producer Andreas Schrittesser and the head of the Seestadt “Habibi & Hawara” restaurant recently came up with the idea for joint products. The first will soon be their Austrian-Oriental Kasnudl fusion, available as a limited edition. And at the business breakfast, Monika Lauscher, an active networker at the Coworking Space Lake1st, and the operator of the local Taekwondo studio came up with an unusual collaboration. He uses the Lake1st lounge as a showcase in the heart of the business quarter to promote his self-defense courses with a demo training session. The increased attention for the new spaces in Seestadt is a welcome side effect.
Balancing framework conditions
One topic that is particularly close to Glawischnig-Hejtmanek’s heart is balancing family, work, and private life, which is often very challenging, especially for solo entrepreneurs. She is currently also advocating for entrepreneurs and employees coworking at Lake1st to have access to hourly childcare options. “I am always exploring and researching what needs exist and what framework conditions are required. It’s about providing companies with spaces of opportunity to think ahead.” The willingness to embrace new ideas is especially strong in Seestadt.
