Hello, my name is Gonzalo Torres, I was born in Mexico City and I would like to tell you a little story.
Somewhere in the world there was a small village installed in the back of a big mountain that cover the direct sunlight. So, for centuries villagers faced several problems from this situation: kids where growing with health problems, plants took a lot of time to grow, etc. But, for a matter of tradition people didn't want to move out and in a certain point in their history they start to accept their destiny. One day, the oldest man in the village was seen slowly walking towards the mountain with a spoon in his hand.
-"Where are you going? Why do you have a spoon in your hand?" they asked.
-" I am going to carve the mountain" he said in a convinced way.
-"Are you crazy? With a spoon? You are never going to make it!" they said.
"I know I am not going to make it, but someone has to start" And he continued his way.
This is how I feel having the opportunity in participating in this Green Building Solution program. As a young architect I would like to start or to continue this long carving process in my home country. Being here, learning from the best, exchanging concepts and experiences from people from all over the world. Analyze and translate those concepts to my reality and make a difference under my humble limits. Perhaps I will not do a big change, or yes, that we don't know. But I am just happy to be able to start just as the old man did; and that for me is already a personal success.
Thank you for the opportunity that Wien 3420 Aspern Development is giving me. Hopefully the end of the program is just the beginning of something even bigger in the direction of my personal career.
