I have come to Vienna to participate in the INEX Green.Building.Solutions 2012. There were twenty two participants from all over the world with different backgrounds who meet in the same program to develop their knowledge about green building solutions and will carry the experience they would obtain to their countries.
The first day we went to BOKU for classes and the program was a kind of getting to know each other and in the evening we went to the Opening Ceremony at the Kuppelsaal of the University of Technology. There were presentations about global warming and green building solutions.
The second day we went to BOKU again and studied the instruction about “The Architecture of Green Building Solutions” with Georg W. Reinberg and we made presentations about the energy efficiency initiatives in our countries. These presentations gave us an idea about what is going on in countries all around the world. In the evening we went to a waltzing night and after waltz we learnt the traditional dance in Austria, it was so entertaining.
Third day we went to BOKU and we studied the instruction about Principles of Passive House Design with Martin Treberspurg and his presentation Project Work. In the afternoon we went to aspern Seetadt and listened to the presentation of Marek Ledzinski about the project aspern.
The project was almost in concept design stage but the buildings in a part of the area had a more detailed design pieces of which was selected by an architectural competition winning project. They have generated an artificial lake in the center of the project which the city will grow around.
On the fourth day we went to BOKU and listened to the presentation of “Sustainability in Urban Planning” of E. Aufhausser and Y. Franz. In the afternoon we went to aspern Seetadt again to listen to the presentation of “Excursion Pro Green City” of A. Wurm and D. Schnepf.
The fifth day we went to BOKU and studied the instruction of “Climate Sensitive design with Peter Holzer and “Retrofit of passive house standard” with Günter Lang. The lessons of this day were beneficial for selection of technologies about the buildings where we would construct and also we would have the idea renovation of existing buildings to reach the passive house standards in Austria. In the afternoon we visited the LOPAS, Tattendorf with Georg W. Reinberg. We could have an idea of using straw bales as an insulation material.
For the weekend we visited some museums and walked through the streets to feel the Vienna.
The second week, we took the Socio Economic Parameters of Sustainability, Energy Balance in Buildings,Photovoltaic and Heating Pump, Life Cycle Assesment, Construction Ecology and Daylight Engineering courses and visited Stadtboutique Passive House Hotel, S House and Schönbrunn Palace.
On Friday we studied the Construction Ecology issue with Thomas Belazzi. The lesson was so beneficial for me to learn harmful substances in materials for selecting the materials in design to create more ecological environments. After a workshop about decision of materials being unhealthy or not we visited S-House in Böheimkirchen with Stefan Prokubek. The insulation material straw bales is the same with the LOPAS but different in detail like exterior wall coverings. We learned that we can design ecological friendly houses with simple decisions like the ones in traditional housing.
After classes we programmed an international dinner in dorm which we cooked our traditional meals and share with the others. It was such a nice evening that we were able to try other nationalities foods.
The last week was for project work and I was the architect of the group, so I had to design a project in 4 days and my group friends worked on energy efficiency issues and presentations. Our project is made of wood and I like the design but I wish I could hve more time to discuss energy efficiency issues with my group friends.
