“The construction industry was responsible for 38 percent and thus more than a third of global CO2 emissions in 2019. This shows the great responsibility of the building sector and makes it clear how essential it is to build according to ecological and energy-efficient standards,” says Beate Lubitz-Prohaska, Chairwoman of the ÖGNB. “With the new edition of the ÖGNB criteria, the requirements for future-proof buildings are specified: The focus is on climate protection, climate change adaptation, circularity, and the EU taxonomy. We are particularly pleased that the buildings in Seestadt not only meet these standards but that the district also sets even stricter criteria for itself.”
Since the very first developer competition, all construction projects in Seestadt have been quality-assured with the ÖGNB assessment system, and since 2020, even stricter quality criteria for new buildings in Seestadt have been formulated with aspern klimafit.
“The holistic approach to sustainable construction, which has always started with the quality of the location, reflects the self-image of Seestadt’s development: Because energy-efficient and resource-saving buildings alone do not create a sustainable living environment. Comprehensive concepts for future-proof urban development are needed, ranging from open space design to mobility,” emphasizes Peter Hinterkörner, Head of Planning and Quality Management at Wien 3420.
