Young People and the Mobility of the Future: Study Launched in aspern Seestadt

From

Young people aged 12 to 19 can take part in shaping the district’s future. The aspern.mobil LAB at TU Wien is launching a study on youth mobility in Seestadt on behalf of Wien 3420 aspern Development AG. The research targets 12- to 19-year-olds who spend time in the district at least twice a month.

Who listens to young people? We do!

“With this study, we are giving young people a strong voice in shaping their neighborhood and daily routes. It’s important to us that interested youths also get the chance to look behind the scenes of the study process and mobility planning. Participation delivers the best results when it happens at eye level,” says Andreas Neisen, Mobility Project Manager at Wien 3420 aspern Development AG.

The study examines how young people move around aspern Seestadt, which places they use or avoid, and what their wishes are for the future.

“Young people move through the city differently. As experts in their own lives, they are far too often ignored in urban planning,” explains study director Céline Schmidt-Hamburger. “Seestadt is taking a different approach. Our study design aims for intensive exchange, creating real added value for future planning.”

Participation options

Young people can now take part in the study as follows:

  • Sounding Board: As researchers, they can accompany the study process.
  • Online survey: They can fill out a short questionnaire (under 16s need parental consent).
  • Workshop: Young people are warmly invited to a personal exchange and to develop ideas together with the research team.

It is possible to take part in one or more study formats. For representative results, it is crucial that as many young people as possible complete the questionnaire.

Your street, your city, your future

The findings are not only intended to be used in aspern Seestadt, but also to serve as a model for other Vienna districts.

As a thank you for participating, there are vouchers for activities in Seestadt.
