Curtain up for the cultural highlights in Seestadt
From
With theater, cinema, art events, and music festivals, Seestadt is once again a meeting place for culture enthusiasts this autumn.
Seestadt is once again transforming into a hub for all art and culture lovers. At the “Open Studio Day” on 11 October 2024, artists working in Seestadt will open their studios at various locations to present their contemporary works. The European art project “Turning the Tide” shows how art and culture can respond to climate change and inspire environmental action. In addition to first insights at the Open Studio Day, international artists will present, for the first time at the “Vienna International Lab” (18 and 19 October 2024) in the Kunstraum do:now Stadt at Maria-Tusch-Straße 22, a map by Dear Hunter that illustrates the various interactions between residents and their urban environment.
Another highlight this year is the pop-up “MILIEUKINO”. A truck converted into a cinema will be stationed at the east shore of the lake for three weeks (Thu–Sat) starting 10 October 2024, showing selected films by Austrian directors under the motto “Back in the cinema: Films from Austria to (re)discover.”
“A growing and vibrant cultural scene is establishing itself in Seestadt. I am therefore particularly pleased that the diverse cultural offerings and institutions such as the VHS Kulturgarage are attracting visitors from all over Vienna and beyond to Seestadt,” emphasizes Wien 3420 board member Gerhard Schuster.
Colorful program in the garage
The VHS Kulturgarage is not only a parking garage with 200 spaces, but also a popular event venue as a multifunctional meeting place. This autumn, numerous cultural highlights are once again on the agenda.
Last year, the Volkstheater already thrilled audiences with its guest performances in Seestadt. This season, exciting new productions await visitors. It all starts with “Die Rechnung” (13.10.2024), followed by the children’s hit “Pettersson und Findus” (from age 5) and the Austrian premiere of “Schwarze Schwäne” (both on 15.12.2024). In 2025, the Volkstheater will also bring “Die kahle Sängerin” (2.3.2025) and the Shakespeare classic “Romeo and Juliet” (27.04.2025) to the stage.
On 22.11.2024, the Junge Theater Donaustadt will perform “Das Glück in der Manege” (from age 6) and “Die Odyssee des Telemachos” (from age 8) at the VHS Kulturgarage. In addition, the Figurentheater im Gemüsebeet will present “Schneckenalarm” (from age 2). The program is rounded off with the opening event “Junges Theater Donaustadt” (5:30 pm) and the Christmas concert “Oh happy day” by the Vienna Gospel Ladies (7:30 pm).
Music events are, alongside theater performances, a permanent fixture in the Seestadt cultural calendar. This year, the VHS Kulturgarage will once again host the international guitar festival “ART OF GUITAR VIENNA” with concerts by Julia Malischnig and Antonio Rey (8 and 9.11.2024), the experimental Sonic Territories Festival (12-16.11.2024), and the annual concert of the Blasmusik Kagran (23.11.2024). MaFlute will also offer a musical experience for all classical and marimba fans at MusikQuartier Seestadt (13.10.2024).
