Colorful Cultural Autumn in aspern Seestadt
From
With theater, cabaret, readings, and music festivals, Seestadt once again offers numerous cultural highlights this autumn.
This autumn, aspern Seestadt will once again become a magnet for culture enthusiasts. With a diverse program, including shows from the Rabenhof Theater and Volkstheater Wien, the Sonic Territories Festival, and an international guitar festival, Seestadt offers a wide range of cultural events. As a new regional center, Seestadt is increasingly coming into focus for event organizers and artists, who find an interested audience here.
Culture in the Garage
Above all, the VHS Kulturgarage at Elinor-Ostrom-Park has established itself as a popular venue. But it’s not just about culture – the Seestadt mobility strategy is also visible here. As a collective garage, it offers over 200 parking spaces, including 30 electric charging stations. On the ground floor, there are flexible spaces for cultural events – including a theater hall with 450 seats – making it a proven multifunctional meeting place. “Seestadt plays an important central role in Donaustadt. Diverse cultural offerings are an essential part of this. We are also pleased that institutions like the VHS Kulturgarage attract visitors from all over Vienna and beyond to Seestadt. It is a landmark and meeting point. Its location at Elinor-Ostrom-Park, just a few minutes’ walk from the U2 Seestadt station and Aspern Nord train station, is also ideal for this,” says Wien 3420 board member Gerhard Schuster.
Austrian Theater and Cabaret Stars in Seestadt
Last year, the Rabenhof Theater already thrilled audiences in Seestadt with guest performances. Due to its great success, the run has been extended, and this season you can once again experience the “Rabenhof feeling” at the VHS Kulturgarage. Visitors can look forward to new highlights from the community theater: “Wir Staatskünstler” with Thomas Maurer, Robert Palfrader, and Florian Scheuba (21.10.2023), Andreas Vitásek as the iconic “Herr Karl” (27.10.2023), Dirk Stermann with “Zusammenbraut” (18.11.2023), and the cult group “Maschek” (09.12.2023) are on the program. In 2024, “Knietief im Glamour” by Polly Adler (27.01.2024) will follow.
The Volkstheater Wien has also once again chosen the VHS Kulturgarage as its venue. It starts with “Frankenstein” (15.10.2023), followed by “Der kleine Prinz” (03.12.2023) and “AMADEUS” (03.12.2023). In 2024, “Die 39 Stufen” (25.02.2024) and finally “Elektra” (21.04.2024) will be performed.
Colorful Mix of Audiences and Events
It’s not just theater that is drawn to the district; music also has a firm place here. The first edition of the international guitar festival “ART OF GUITAR VIENNA” will take place in Seestadt (03-04.11.2023), bringing guitarist, singer, and composer Julia Malischnig to the stage of the VHS Kulturgarage. The Sonic Territories Festival (10-11.11.) has been a guest in Seestadt for several years – for the first time, it will fill the VHS Kulturgarage with experimental electronic music.
Children and young people will also be offered a program with the children’s opera “Das tapfere Schneiderlein” (24.11. and 26.11.2023) by Taschenoper Wien.
Seestadt Locations and Cultural Initiatives
The venue is not the only place for events in Seestadt. The Seeseiten Bookstore invites you several times a month to readings with renowned authors such as Johanna Sebauer (7.11.) or Patrick Budgen (14.11.). At the Yella Yella! Nachbar_innentreff, regular educational events and matinées take place. Currently, a series of events there is highlighting the women who gave their names to Seestadt’s streets and squares.
In the Seestadt Studios operated by Impulstanz, the CPA, Choreographic Platform Austria (21.10.2023), offers dance and performance.
