Currently, WienMobil Rad – the bike-sharing service of Wiener Linien – is being expanded across aspern Seestadt, gradually replacing the district’s own bike rental system. As a pioneer north of the Danube, Seestadt introduced the “SeestadtFLOTTE” bike-sharing service back in 2015, making it an important and popular part of its mobility concept. This was fully financed by the Mobility Fund, which is funded by the mandatory parking space fees in collective garages in aspern Seestadt.

“With the further development of the district, aspern Seestadt is now taking the next step in expanding its sustainable mobility offering. To ensure future scalability and better connectivity with the surrounding area, the bike-sharing system will be fully integrated into the citywide WienMobil Rad system. This is another key measure to achieve our ambitious modal split target. The current goals – 40% of all journeys by public transport, 40% by bike or on foot, and only 20% by motorized private transport – will be further refined. By 2035, 85% of all journeys should be made using environmentally friendly modes of transport,” emphasizes Robert Grüneis, CEO of the development company Wien 3420.

Comprehensive bike rental system for everyone

In spring 2025, four more WienMobil bike stations will be added to the four existing ones, primarily serving the newest district "Am Seebogen" in the north of Seestadt. The locations were chosen so that each station is within a maximum distance of 200 meters. They are situated at key transport hubs and in front of the event venue VHS Kulturgarage (see overview map).

“The newly built locations include both stations with fixed docks for parking bikes and stations where bikes can be parked in a marked area between two bike racks. Two new cargo bikes and bikes with integrated child seats complete the expanded offer. The SeestadtFLOTTE locations will only be dismantled once all four new WienMobil bike stations in Seestadt are in place,” explains Andreas Neisen, who is responsible for mobility planning at Wien 3420.

Cargo bikes (“Grätzlrad”) can still be borrowed free of charge from the district management office (Hannah-Arendt-Platz 1) in Seestadt.

“The new WienMobil bike stations in Seestadt are another milestone in our efforts to make Vienna’s transport sustainable and environmentally friendly. I am pleased that our bike-sharing service can inspire even more people to cycle,” says Wiener Linien Managing Director Alexandra Reinagl.

With a WienMobil annual subscription, the first 30 minutes of cycling are free. The standard rate is 0.75 EUR per 30 minutes, while Wiener Linien regular customers pay more than 50% less at 0.35 EUR per 30 minutes. The e-cargo bike costs 2.50 EUR per 30 minutes – here too, regular customers get a 50% discount.

As a special bonus, SeestadtFLOTTE users and new Seestadt residents can receive a 15-euro voucher for WienMobil bike until the end of March.
