A Visit to the Seestadt – relax, discover, enjoy

4 minutes
Modern architecture, plenty of green spaces, and the lake at the center. Seestadt demonstrates how urban life works today and tomorrow. A visit is worthwhile: from your arrival to a relaxing end of the day by the water.

The first step into the Seestadt

Seestadt is easy to reach: The U2 subway takes you directly from the city center to the Seestadt station, and the tram provides additional connections within Vienna’s public transport network. If you are traveling by car, you will find convenient parking in the multi-storey car parks. As you step out, a spacious urban area opens up with wide paths, plenty of open space, and clear sightlines – an atmosphere that immediately conveys calm and lets you start your day in a relaxed way.

Orientation and exciting insights

A great starting point is the InfoPoint, which offers insights into the past, present, and future of Seestadt. In addition to a free exhibition about the district’s development, you’ll find information on architecture, urban planning, and everyday life on site. Even upon arrival, the diversity of the quarter is clear: squares and parks, shops, restaurants, and public spaces all interconnect. If you want to dive deeper, join one of the guided tours – they vividly demonstrate how open spaces, mobility, and modern urban development interact. To secure your spot, it’s best to register for a tour in advance.

The InfoPoint makes the ideas behind one of Europe’s largest urban development projects visible.

From the lakeshore into the green

After getting your bearings at the InfoPoint, a walk outdoors is a great idea. The north shore of the asperner lake is an especially good starting point. A wide promenade runs along here, with seating steps inviting you to linger and offering views of the surrounding architecture. On warm days, the water attracts many visitors who come not only to stroll but also to swim and cool off. All around, various parks enhance the quality of your stay. Elinor-Ostrom-Park is focused on activity, with a wide range of play and sports options, from climbing and bouldering to fitness and parkour equipment. In contrast, Hannah-Arendt-Park offers open meadows and quiet areas for relaxation. Together with other green spaces, a network of recreational areas is created, allowing for both active and peaceful moments.

Stroll, explore, discover

In the afternoon, Seestadt offers a varied program. In addition to shops and cafés that invite you to linger, and streets perfect for strolling, cultural offerings and events provide extra inspiration. The Kulturgarage regularly hosts concerts, theater, or readings, and on squares or in open spaces, there are often festivals, art events, and the Mazzucco market on Fridays. Many events are open to all and make the diversity of (lake-)urban life directly tangible.

Let the day wind down

To round off an eventful day, there are many options: dinner at one of the local restaurants, attending an event, or a final stroll along the promenade. And if you feel like staying longer, you’ll also find suitable accommodation nearby. Whether a modern hotel or apartment, there are opportunities to let your impressions sink in and experience Seestadt not just for a few hours, but overnight as well.

Soil protection starts with the compact city

How cities grow determines how efficiently land is used. Densification, mixed use, and short distances are key levers for making efficient use of space while ensuring a high quality of life.
