Development phases
aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside will be constructed in several phases over a period of at least two decades.
Phase 1: 2008-2017
The project developers Wien 3420 AG will develop the lake park area and infrastructure to kick off the creation of the Urban Lakeside. The first major stage of construction includes some 2,000 residential units over a gross floorspace of 240,000 sqm. In addition, there will be offices, retail and service companies as well as research and development establishments. This large volume safeguards local supply and the intended mixed-use structure right from the beginning. This phase includes the start-up of the Underground stations of aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside and the construction of the Innovation Quarter. As an impulse generator for research- and technology-oriented enterprises the aspern IQ is being developed by the Vienna Business Agency. In the first construction stage, approx. 8,000 sqm of useful floorspace will be created by 2012.
Phase 2: 2017-2022
The railway station and a link to A 23 motorway will be completed. More residential units, other mixed-purpose buildings, the railway station and office quarters will be developed.
Phase 3: 2022-2030
During this phase at the latest, the project will be further condensed and developed around the railway station, shopping street and Underground line. A number of interesting plots will be deliberately kept free of construction to optimise the mixed-use concept and attract further high-level enterprises, cultural institutions and leisure options; temporary forms of land use will be replaced.
