Living

aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside will unite many generations and lifestyles in one spot; its housing, leisure and infrastructure facilities will offer space for meeting, sports, uncluttered movement and recreation.

aspern will be a city where people like to live and work, where they find it easy to network and keep abreast of latest developments, where the city centre or the airport are quickly reached – and where the pleasant sides of life are there to tap into anytime: enjoying a lunch break in a café by the lake, meeting with colleagues in the park for a brainstorming session or going for a jog to relax. aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside offers more; it offers “The Full Life”.

The Full Life means reconciling housing and work, city and nature, community and leisure. But it also means a city of short distances, with the train stations and airports of the Twin Cities Vienna and Bratislava just around the corner.

As part of the metropolis Vienna – according to the international study by the Mercer Consulting Group 2010, the Austrian capital is No. 1 worldwide in terms of quality of living –, aspern wants to offer its denizens all-round life quality, every day. People will not only like to live and work in aspern, but also spend their leisure time here.

aspern boasts both urban and country appeal. An important role is attributed to the “feel-good” factor. Thus half of the total available space – much more than usual in comparable projects – is reserved for public open spaces with roads, squares, green and recreational areas. Visible green signals were set last spring, when 800 trees were planted as a grove; they are a “reserve” for future green space projects on the former airfield. The species used are attuned to the location; as the project develops, the dwindling grove will act as a sort of “project clock” to keep track of the implementation process.

The future circulation system is designed to favour pedestrians and cyclists in combination with public transport. Footpaths and bikeways are prioritised even now. In 2008, the existing network was complemented by a route crossing the future urban centre aspern, so that different parts of the 22nd municipal district Donaustadt are linked also outside the road network.
