The first office building on the site, completed in autumn 2012, showcases all the characteristics of the future development at aspern Seestadt: sustainable, open, flexible, high-tech and multifunctional. aspern IQ is not only a flagship project, but also the headquarters of the development agency Wien 3420 Aspern Development AG. The sale and letting of the building plots at Seestadt, the development of the infrastructure, the coordination of all planning activities and the implementation of the quality management procedures are all managed here under one roof.

From the service-oriented shared offices of the Vienna Business Agency and the researchers of research TUb to the community housing initiatives and major global player HOERBIGER – together they are building and shaping the future of aspern Seestadt.

 

New housing and commercial projects in the Seeparkquartier

In addition to the subsidized housing and local amenities that will be ready by the end of this year, around 250 further privately financed owner-occupied flats and some 900 additional workplaces will be completed by the end of 2017. The housing developer BUWOG – Bauen und Wohnen GmbH is planning privately financed owner-occupied flats, while the KERBLER GROUP is developing innovative office space using ecological, sustainable construction methods.

In the next few months the finishing touches will be put to the first residential quarter in the south-western section of the Seestadt. After that the focus of the building works will shift eastwards towards the U2 metro line. On 29 January 2015 Vienna City Council approved the legal basis for the new quarter.

Office premises for young entrepreneurs

Mingo Offices in aspern Vienna's Urban Lakeside (c) Anderwald + Grond"Move in and grow" is the motto of the 12 new shared offices at aspern IQ. Small, flexible, modern and with no minimum letting period, the offices are perfect for innovative start-ups. Young enterprises with a technology focus, in particular, will find this an ideal working environment: they benefit from their proximity to the existing larger companies on the site and can also tap synergies with the research TUb to forge profitable links between research and industry.

 

A global player at aspern Seestadt

HOERBIGER Holding AG is a worldwide leader in compression, automation and drive technology that has been operating from its Vienna base for more than 100 years – and the first major global player to locate at aspern Seestadt. HOERBIGER Forum, which has opened in June 2016, has a gross floor area of approx. 24,000 sqm and employs around 300 administrative staff and a further 230 in the high-tech production facility. With its 45 million euro investment HOERBIGER also intends to build up a strong R&D hub in Vienna.Rendering HOERBIGER Holding AG

To realise this vision the Vienna-based architects querkraft architekten came up with a campus complex designed to promote exchange and the generation of novel ideas.

 

Networking enterprise and research

research TUb GmbH offers applied research for businesses based on the scientific expertise of Vienna University of Technology. At aspern IQ it runs the Mi-Factory, a manufacturing innovations centre that encourages enterprises to treat the on-site R&D laboratory 'as their own'. The aim is to present innovative manufacturing solutions, supply ideas for process and plant innovation and support their implementation.

Wien Work HQ

Ground breaking ceremony for Wien Work (c) Christian Jobst / PIDWien Work integrative Betriebe und AusbildungsgmbH, which creates and finds jobs for disadvantaged persons in the labour market, will set up a workshop building, offer a range of services for local residents, operate a canteen kitchen and rent office premises on the site. From 2015/2016, the headquarters of this non-profit enterprise and its eleven divisions with a total of approx. 600 employees will be housed together in new premises at aspern Seestadt.

 

aspern Seestadt as a “living lab”

Aspern Smart City Research GmbH & Co KG is a joint research project by Siemens and the City of Vienna's infrastructure and utilities operators Wien Energie und Wiener Netze that  will focus on topics such as energy, the environment, building utilities and intelligent networks in cooperation with the residents and users of Urban Lakeside. The project, which is unique in Europe, will make Urban Lakeside a "living lab" for the development of sustainable, innovative technologies for liveable cities.

aspern Seestadt is the home to one of Austria’s largest smart city projects “Smart Cities Demo Aspern (SCDA)” and aims to be a model of high-efficiency and low-impact cities of tomorrow.
